Ginger, cinnamon tea for coughs and cold *** Bonus blog!

Cold and flu season is in full swing in the desert. Using plants to help ease the symptoms and boost our immune system helps cut the time we suffer from the virus and also breaks up the mucous to help our body heal quicker. This tea is a super mucous zapper and is great for soothing coughs and sore throats too!

Here is a SUPER easy recipe anyone with access to fresh ginger can make in under 30 minutes!

Start with about 3 inches of fresh ginger and freshly ground cinnamon OR cinnamon sticks like we used below. Add to large pot of boiling water. Add cleaned orange peels and bring back to a boil. Reduce to low and simmer for 20 minutes, covered.

This recipe can also be used in other ways in the home.

In blender, add a few cinnamon sticks with any dried herbs you have like rosemary or lavender flowers. Once powdered, mix with baking soda and use as a carpet freshener! Sprinkle on carpet and let it sit for about 15 minutes then vacuum up! You can also add a few drops of citrus essential oil for extra cleansing power!

Drink tea every couple of hours while the symptoms persist. We sweeten this tea with Manuka Honey for extra healing properties!
